Photo 2-12 (M-1125)
This photo and the next photo demonstrate the stress on the trap piping (at Trap T-8) due to the differential movement of the condensate and steam pipes. Both 3/4”pipes which extend the trap assembly out from beneath the steam and condensate piping are badly cocked and therefore stressed. The screwed elbow in picture P2-13
has been welded, presumably to stop it from leaking. This is typical through out the tunnel where trap assemblies have undergone stress due to differential pipe movement due to anchor failures.
All of this piping must be redone once the expansion and anchoring problems for the steam and condensate lines are solved. The T-8 trap is situated about 15 feet from steam and CR anchor points unlike other traps which are placed at anchors sites and therefore experience little or no movement (unless the anchor welds break). Therefore the T-8 trap assembly does, by design, experience differential movement between the steam and condensate lines as they warm and cool and, thus, should in my view be provided with a means of flexibility.
