Steam expansion joint at end of north B Tunnel (UV-7) extended 14” of 12” design.

This joint’s slip has been pulled out all the way—even beyond its “cold” position. This probably occurred after the anchor broke due to the overextended 8”guides catching on their sleeves when the pipe was trying to re-contract during a shutdown. (It does not, however, as far as I can figure, prove that the anchor broke before the guide seized.) See previous photo.
